The world of transportation is changing. Due to increasing mobility demand, challenges like financing, dealing with emissions and volatile oil prices are accentuated.
Our blog is to provide information to younger classes i.e 4th and 5th to help them in their curricular syllabus.
The history of transport is largely one of technological innovations . Advances in technology have allowed people to travel farther, explore more territory, and expand their influence over larger and larger areas. Even in ancient times, new tools such as foot coverings, skis, and snowshoes lengthened the distances that could be travelled.
It is the most expensive modes of transport in our country and is not in the reach of each and every person . Humanity’s desire to fly likely dates to the first time man observed birds, an observation illustrated in the legendary stories of the vimanas in Indian mythology . Much of the focus of early research was on imitating birds, but through Trial and error, balloons , airships , gliders and eventually powered Aircraft and other types of flying machines were invented. As we all know wright brothers were the one who built the first aeroplane but shivkar bapuji talvade , an indian scholar , was the first the construct flying machine before the wright brothers .
Space
ISRO built India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, which was launched by the Soviet Union on 19 April 1975. It was named after the mathematician Aryabhata. In 1980, Rohini became the first satellite to be placed in orbit by an Indian-made launch vehicle, SLV-3. The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan is a space probe orbiting mars since 24 September 2014. It was launched on 5 November 2013 by the ISRO . India became the first country to study the surface of mars .
Water transport is the process of transport a watercraft, such as a barge, boat, ship or sailboat, over a body of water, such as a sea, ocean, lake, canal or river. … Ship transport is primarily used for the carriage of people and non-perishable goods, generally referred to as cargo.
It was first used for carrying heavy and bulky goods by Indian merchants in India. Then came the Britishers who started using these extensive ports for transporting raw materials from India to Manchester and other parts of Europe. It is now used for various other purposes like fishing , sightseeing etc..
The first boat was 45 feet long it was tested on the Delaware river by John Fitch and his design assistant Steven Pagano. John Fitch (January 21, 1743 – July 2, 1798) was an American inventor, clockmaker, entrepreneur and engineer. He was most famous for operating the first steamboat service in the United States.
Land transport is the transport or movement of people, animals or goods from one location to another location on land. The two main forms of land transport areroad transport and rail transport . Humans’ first means of land transport was walking. The domestication of animals introduces a new way to lay the burden of transport on more powerful creatures, allowing heavier loads to be hauled, or humans to ride the animals for higher speed and duration. Inventions such as the wheel and sled helped make animal transport more efficient through the introduction of vehicles. However, water transport, including rowed and sailed vessels, was the only efficient way to transport large quantities or over large distances prior to the industrial revolution
Road
The first forms of road transport were horses, oxen or even humans carrying goods over dirt tracks that often followed gametrails. The first earth tracks were created by humans carrying goods and often followed trails . As animals were domesticated, horses , oxen and donkeys became an element in track-creation. After the invention of wheel , animal drawn vehicles came up , followed by cycles, rickshaws, motorcycles, scooters, cars etc.
Rail
The history of rail transportation dates back nearly 500 years, and includes systems with man or horse power and ralis of wood (or occasionally stone). This was usually for moving coal from the mine down to a river, from where it could continue by boat, with a flanged wheel running on a rail. Railways are the principal mode of transportation for freight and passengers in India. Railways also make it possible to conduct multifarious activities like business, sightseeing, pilgrimage along with transportation of goods over longer distances . 1804 – First steam locomotive railway known as Penydarren or “Pen-y-Darren” locomotive was built by Richard Trevithick .The first train carried a load of 10 tons of iron.
